Lena gives Walter a chance with the money because she got the call that he hadent been to work in a few days. She knows how he feels about providing for his family and she understands him so she decides to give him the money so he can provide and deliver more to his family like he wants to and also becuse Walter's realationship with his wife seems to be getting worse.

Lena still trusted Walter with the money because she beileved that he would make the right decision. She thought that if given a chance Walter could fix his mistakes and make everything better. She knew her son knew better than to go and spend the money on something that didnt matter. She had faith in him to do the right thing for him and his family. With that confidece in him she decided to give him the money.

I think Lena's main intent of giving Walter the money was because she wanted to, in a way, give the reigns over to him. She wanted him to feel important and to have something to live for. He had been suffering from emotional breakdowns and was now going to pull himself backup by feeling as if he really could provide for his family. Lena also felt that Walter could fix his mistakes and do something with the money that could benefit the whole family, which was not the case. Lena felt her son could take up the responsibility of investing and managing the household.

Lena gave Walter the money because she knows he wants a say in the household. Lena can tell Walter wants to be a good father for his son, Travis, but he can't because he is upset about his son sleeping on the couch instead of a bed. Lena recognizes this and decides that if she gives Walter the money maybe his attitude will be more positive and he won't drink himself to death.

I disagree with these statement. The reason why Lena gave Walter the money is she believes that he has the potential to be a good man as his father was. She believes that if she gives him a chance with the money, he will regain his self-respect and become a man.

Lena probably thought that maybe Walter had changed and maybe he would take what she was saying into consideration about the liquor store.
