Beneatha breaks down after she hears the news of her brother's loss of the money. She is hysterical and when Asagai comes over, she pours her heart out as he tries to calm her down. He finally says, "[Beneatha] come home with me [to Africa]." Asagai has been around the family throughout their hardships; how does his role in the play affect the family?

Good question. I wouldn't say it as much affected the family but, Benetha herself. Asagi gave her a type of hope an joy to provide for her. She needed someone to be there for her and Asagi was there. Asagi even offered Benetha to go to Africa with him and be a doctor there. Asagi, knowing how much Benetha loved the culture of Africa he wanted bring her with him.(CP3)

Asagai was Beneatha own little therapist. Whenever Beneatha started to "riot" around he would be the calm person to set her thinking straight again. Asagai didnt really affect anybody else in the house.

I think that by asking Bennie to go to Africa with him, he had helped her find herself. Throughout the play Bennie seemed to be unsure of who she was. Asagai had given her the robe and the reccord from Africa and she acted like she was from Africa herself. She stops thinking she is from Africa right around the time Walter looses the money. When Asagi yells at Bennie, she realizes who she is.

Good question. I dont think he has a major role, but he has some part. Benetha is in love with Asagi, and therefore he affect the family in some way. He cares and loves for her and this shows that he knows what the family is going through.
